November 2015 revenge cases

November 2015 Revenge CasesRegarding November 2015 revenge cases, this month opened with an attempted murder in Saranda, South of Albania. The event is attributable to the dynamics of gjakmarrja as it is related to a murder committed in 1997.
In the same days European Commission published the Albania Progress Report on 10th November. Despite praising some of the progress Albania made at a political-administrative level, Bruxelles calls for new efforts in the field of justice and fight against corruption. The report refers to the Law of 2005 for the establishment of the Coordination Council for the fight against “blood feud” in order to devise both social and educational program particularly in rural areas.
The phenomenon of gjakmarrja is often addressed with sensationalist claims by the Albanian media. This month several online magazines have dusted off an old photo reportage from their archives which shows people involved in blood feuds.
